Learning for Little Ones - Coloring

Lately Emma has loved coloring. She even made up a sign for "color" just to get her point across. She points her pointer finger and pretends like she's coloring something with her finger. It's so cute, I have to say "okay, let's color". Even though sometimes she tries to eat the crayons.

Anyway, today she really wanted me to just write her name for her. I wrote it out while telling her the letters. I don't know if she actually was learning anything but she did say one of the letters. And I've been trying to tell her the colors that she or I am using, but she still thinks everything is blue. Maybe after a lot of repetition she'll figure out some of the colors.

So coloring is a good learning activity for us. We are hopefully learning colors and her name. And how not to eat our crayons. And not to color on the table. Still working on everything, though.

That's great! Tornado learned the sign for color from a Signing Time DVD (My Favorite Things, if your library has the series). He says it and signs it now though. It's too cute!

You should try the matching thing for the colors... maybe it will help with everything being blue... but then again maybe not. It's hard to say whether Tornado knows everything isn't red (the only color he says) because he rarely says any of them out loud. :)

Thanks for participating! Maybe we'll grow to 3 or 4 people some day. :)

My son apparently enjoys chewing on crayons but hates the crayons once they are in his mouth. He spent a good 10 minutes making spitting sounds, trying to get whatever tiny bit of crayon he had in his mouth. I laughed pretty hard but the others in the restaurant did not enjoy it!
